Board Will Convene to Provide Guidance to Utilities During Public Health Emergency
Trenton, N.J. – The New Jersey Board of Public Utilities announced today that it will be convening an emergency Board meeting, tomorrow, March 19, at 10 am, for the purposes of issuing guidance to all public utilities and regulated entities during the COVID-19 public health emergency. To protect the health and safety of workers and residents, the Board anticipates considering mandating that:

  • All public utilities and regulated entities cease any home or business visits unless doing so would pose immediate risk to health and safety of residents;
  • Any door-to-door sales activity by Third Party Suppliers or other sales persons selling energy or energy related products (for example: residential solar, community solar, or energy efficiency offerings) be suspended immediately;

 

The Board will also consider waiving the requirements for paper filings and accept e-filing in lieu of paper filing of all documents. Additionally, the Board will consider suspending all fees as set forth in N.J.S.A. 48:2-56.

 

In compliance with the provisions set forth in N.J.S.A. 10:4-9 (b), the Emergency meeting was called due to the nature of the substantial harm to the public interest likely to result from delay in holding the meeting. The meeting will be limited to the discussion of and acting with respect to the captioned matter and the need for such meeting could not have been reasonably foreseen at a time when adequate notice could have been provided.
