Motor Vehicle Services (MVS) has added a new function to its online search system known as CAIR. Insurance companies and other users can now request searches for motor vehicle ownership history. The service will be available to those with existing approved access to the CAIR system for driver history abstracts or plate lookups and to new users. A search, which would be the equivalent of the entry of one vehicle identification number (VIN), would cost $8.

Prior to accessing the new function, current users of the CAIR system must apply for amendments to their present agreements. New users of the CAIR system must submit an application, which if approved, would result in agreements. Information on additional expenses such as deposits, payments for anticipated use and installation charges will be available from MVS. Interested insurance companies can fax written requests for motor vehicle ownership history, prepared on official company letterhead, to:

Requesters will be provided with the necessary instructions to acquire access. There will be no access to this new function until the amendment to the present agreement or new user application process is complete.
