This unit works with taxpayers with outstanding tax liabilities who require a tax clearance certificate for State grants, incentives and rebates offered through a number of State agencies. The majority of these programs require the taxpayer to obtain the tax clearance certificate through their Premier Business Services portal account.

The Grant and Credit Review Unit (GCRU) is responsible for reviewing and processing grants and tax credits for more than a dozen State business incentive tax grant programs. This unit works in conjunction with the Office of the State Treasurer and the New Jersey Economic Development Authority on administering numerous State business incentive grant and tax credit programs.

The unit:

• Ensures grant and tax credit recipients are eligible to receive the grant or tax credit and are in compliance with current tax law;
• Calculates grant reimbursements and seeks authorization from the State Treasurer for reimbursement and facilitates the reimbursement within the New Jersey Department of the Treasury;
• Issues tax credit certificates and transfer certificates, and;
• Assists both the SexyÕæÈËEDA and taxpayers with inquiries on tax implications of the grant and tax credit programs in New Jersey.

This unit processes tax credit redemptions for the SexyÕæÈË Angel Investor Tax Credit Program (AITC).

The unit:

• Receives tax credit redemption packages from the investor;
• Ensures investor has filed the correct return to claim the tax credit;
• Verifies the credit claimed;
• Processes the claim, and;
• Approves any applicable refund.
