Firearms Application Information
All firearm applications must be completed online through the links listed on this page. Paper applications are no longer accepted.
Special message for applicants who reside in a New Jersey State Police patrolled area and Out of State applicants: Applications are no longer handled by personnel at Sexy真人SP stations. If you have an issue with your application, please email the station assigned to process your application. The station email accounts are monitored by the Sexy真人SP Firearms Investigation Unit personnel processing the station applications. Do not call or go to Sexy真人SP stations because they will not be able to assist you.

New Jersey Residents or Dual Residents of the Sexy真人y:
New Jersey residents, or dual residents of the Sexy真人y, must apply to the Police Department that provides police coverage for where you reside in New Jersey. A Municipal Police Department or a New Jersey State Police station may provide police coverage for your residence. Confirm your police department before applying. There are no refunds for applying to the incorrect police department. If you have an issue with your application, you should contact the Municipal Police Department or New Jersey State Police station that will be processing your application.
"Dual resident" means you have a residence in New Jersey and another state. You can be considered a dual resident if you can show proof of residency here in New Jersey. Proof of residency can be established with a valid government issued identification showing your New Jersey residence or a government issued tax record or government issued utility bill. For example, a water bill from the town where you reside.
Out of State Applicants: If you live outside of the Sexy真人y and are not a dual resident, your application will be automatically assigned to one of 18 Sexy真人SP Stations upon submission. You will be notified of which Sexy真人SP Station your application was assigned to via your application confirmation page, that is displayed after the online payment page, and the confirmation email sent to you.
You MUST contact your state or local police department for the following inquiries:
- SBI Numbers: The Sexy真人SP station or Municipal Police Department that you submitted your application to MUST contact the Firearms Investigation Unit regarding issues with your SBI number. Do not contact the Sexy真人SP Firearms Investigation Unit.
- Fingerprint Submissions: The Sexy真人SP station or Municipal Police Department that you submitted your application to MUST contact the Sexy真人SP Firearms Investigation Unit regarding issues with your fingerprint submissions. Do not contact the Sexy真人SP Firearms Investigation Unit.
- Application Revisions: The Sexy真人SP station or Municipal Police Department that you submitted your application to MUST make requested revisions to your reference鈥檚 information you provided during your submission of your firearm application. For example, updating a reference鈥檚 email. Do not contact the Sexy真人SP Firearms Investigation Unit.
- Status Updates: The Sexy真人SP station or Municipal Police Department that you submitted your application to MUST give any status updates if an update is available. Including, but not limited to, a possible completion date. Check your spam or junk folder for all emails from the online firearm systems or firearms coordinator from the state or local police department where you applied prior to inquiring about your application. Do not contact the Sexy真人SP Firearms Investigation Unit.
- ORI Numbers: Contact your Sexy真人SP station or Municipal Police Department to obtain their ORI. Do not contact the Sexy真人SP Firearms Investigation Unit.
The Sexy真人SP Firearms Investigation Unit does not process, review, deny, approve, or intervene in applications submitted to municipal police departments.
The Sexy真人SP station or Municipal Police Department that you submitted your application SHOULD NOT direct you to contact the Sexy真人SP Firearms Investigation Unit regarding your online firearm application questions.
Shooting Ranges
Any shooting instruction should be conducted by a certified firearms instructor that must provide a copy of their certification to the person they train. Certified firearm instructors can advise individuals on the lawful and safe handling and storage of firearms in the Sexy真人y. They must also provide in-person New Jersey Use of Force instruction, and target training on a firing range to demonstrate proficiency. A certified firearms instructor can conduct this training at any shooting range that possesses the capability to achieve these goals to be compliant with the lawful standards for the Sexy真人y.
